Freddie Roach is in the process of preparing prized student Manny Pacquiao for the Filipino’s defense of the WBO World welterweight belt against Jeff Horn in July.
That fight, however, is not the biggest one in 2017.
The dream showdown between middleweight king Gennady Golovkin and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is finally set for September and the rematch between light heavyweight greats Andre Ward and Sergey Kovalev in June.
Roach once told RingTV back in early May that he’s still “50-50” on who wins between Golovkin and Alvarez, but on Thursday he was a little more certain.
“GGG will knock Canelo out,” Roach told INQUIRER.net during Pacquiao’s training session at Elorde Gym in the Mall of Asia Complex.
Golovkin (37-0-0) is set to defend his WBC, WBA Super, IBF, and IBO world middleweight belts against Alvarez (49-1-1) who owns The Ring middleweight and the WBO super welterweight belts.
For the rematch between Ward and Kovalev, however, Roach wasn’t that much of a fan.
“Who cares?” Roach said simply.
