Far Eastern University booked itself a seat to the quarterfinals in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup after dismantling Adamson University, 72-53, Sunday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Tamaraws tied San Sebastian atop Group B with identical 5-1 records while the Soaring Falcons slipped to 6-2, though they are also advancing to the quarterfinal stages.
Arvin Tolentino took charge of the Tamaraws’ scoring finishing with 22 points, 17 in the first half, while also grabbing 10 rebounds.
FEU head coach Olsen Racela was, nonetheless, impressed with Tolentino’s scoring but he wanted more out of his versatile big man.
“Arvin can really focus on one thing if he needs to,” said Racela. “But I want to see more out of him, he has to focus the whole game.”
It wasn’t just Tolentino’s hot shooting that separated the Tamaraws from the Falcons in the first half, it was also FEU’s stingy defense.
Adamson managed to score just seven field goals in the first half for 18 points while FEU lit up the scoreboards on 17-of-35 shooting for 40 points.
Jerie Pinggoy top scored for Adamson with 13 points.
