Enciso on missing crucial triple: ‘I just need to be better’
With time winding down, there was no doubt in Simon Enciso’s mind that his potential game-tying three would find the bottom of the net.
“It felt good,” Enciso recalled.
But that wasn’t the case as Enciso misfired and Alaska yielded the last quarterfinals berth to GlobaPort, 107-106, in the 2017 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
The young guard said the play was exactly what his head coach Alex Compton drew up, for either him or Cory Jefferson to take the final shot.
“It was for me and Cory, and there’s not much I can say. I just got to be better,” he said.
Overall, it was one of those nights for Enciso where the ball just didn’t bounce his way as he went 1-of-7 from the field to finish with measly three points.
Enciso struggled in his first conference with the Aces, averaging just 5.8 points per game on a woeful 29% from the field and 16% from deep.
“I just need to be better. I’ve been on a shooting slump this couple of games so there’s nothing I can really do right now but to just get back to the gym and do better,” he said.
Enciso vowed to bounce back stronger as he hopes to deliver for the Aces next conference.
“Next conference, I’ll be ready. We fought hard until the end but unfortunately, in the last couple of games, it just haven’t been sliding out there,” he said. “I believe in this team and I believe in coach. He’s a hell of a coach. It’s a pleasure they acquired me this conference. I just feel super blessed to just be on this team. I’ll be better and I’ll be ready.”
