Jeron Teng provided the offensive firepower but the star forward knows that Flying V must hold its ground on defense for it to achieve success in the 2017 PBA D-League Foundation Cup.

“We relaxed on defense because they scored more than 100 points,” Tenf said moments after Flying V turned back Gamboa Coffee Mix, 119-105 on Monday. “In our team, we don’t like that. It’s a big no-no for us.”

Teng lit up the scoreboards as he fired 35 points that went with three rebounds and three assists to keep the Thunder unbeaten after two games.

Flying V was also efficient from the field shooting 55 percent.

But Teng acknowledges that it’s just half of the battle, with the former La Salle standout noting that the Thunder’s spot-on shooting will be for moot if it allows its opponents to shoot the same way.

Flying V could not sustain their good run early as they allowed the Coffee Lovers to catch up and finish with a 53 percent clip.

“Like what coach said, we’re not happy because we know that our purpose here is more than just winning games. We want to improve and improve and eventually, compete for the championship. That’s really our target, so we can’t really have bad defensive games such as this,” he said.

Still, Teng is pleased with his team’s 2-0 record knowing that the Thunder beat experienced teams in Cignal HD and Gamboa.

“It just shows our capability. We know what we can do. We just have to really work hard for it. We can’t relax and we just have to continuously improve,” he said.
