Filoil: San Sebastian blasts UP for sixth straight win

San Sebastian continued its stampede in the group stages of the Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup, ripping University of the Philippines, 64-51, Wednesday at the tournament’s namesake arena in San Juan.

The Stags now lead Group B with a 6-1 record, leaving behind their season opener loss to Adamson University into distant memory.

After a 34-34 stalemate at the start of the second half, the Stags went into overdrive and outscored the Maroons, 22-9, in the third to build a 56-43 lead.

Jason David eventually finished off UP with back-to-back triples with 3:08 left to give San Sebastian a 64-49 lead.

“Everybody is stepping up and we played good defense in the second half,” said Stags head coach Egay Macaraya. “I’m just very happy that my team is learning to win every game. Right now their character is they would never give up, no matter what.”

Regille Ilagan top scored for San Sebastian with 14 points while David showed his versatility finishing with 13 points, four rebounds six assists, two steals, and a block.

Ibrahim Quattara had 14 points, 12 rebounds, and six blocks to lead the 4-2 Maroons.
