Pasig run hopes to lure 100,000

MANILA, Philippines—Organizers of the “11.20.11 Run for Pasig River” Monday expressed confidence that they can lure 100,000 runners for the event on Sunday.

Monchet Olives, chief strategic officer of the organizing ABS-CBN Foundation, said that the event aims to generate P10 million for the rehabilitation of the Pasig River.

Unlike last year, the event will purely be an advocacy run, minus the competitive side.

Olives said the run will take on a festive atmosphere just like the New York Marathon.

The advocacy run lured a record 116,086 competitors last season which set a world record for “most participants in a racing event.”

The run will have the 3K, 5K and 10K categories, while a ceremonial 21K run will be held for sponsors and partners.

The route for the 21K run will pass through several sites of the projects as a way for “the runners to see where their cause is going,” Olives said.

For the 3K run alone, Olives said they are targeting 80,000 participants, majority of them students.

Among those who have signed up for the run are celebrities Kim Atienza, Karylle, Pinoy Biggest Loser winner Larry Martin and ABS-CBN Foundation managing director Gina Lopez.
