Global trounces Ilocos

Japanese midfielder Shu Sasaki scored twice as Global Cebu unleashed a first half flurry on Ilocos United to come away with a 3-0 victory on Sunday night in the Philippines Football League at Quirino Stadium in Vigan.

Paul Mulders opened the scoring with a 23rd minute penalty for the Cebuanos, before Sasaki struck two goals in a five-minute span as Global put the home side to the sword for its third win in five matches.

With the victory, Global moved up to third spot with 10 points, vaulting past Kaya FC Makati on goal difference.

One of the two new clubs in the PFL, Ilocos absorbed its fourth straight loss after opening the season with a 1-1 draw with Davao Aguilas, a result that gave the Ilocanos their only point of the campaign so far.

On the back of losses to Home United of Singapore in the AFC Cup and Ceres-Negros just before the international break, coach Marjo Allado’s men got their campaign back on track with that dominant performance against the Ilocanos.

Over at Biñan Football Stadium, Stallion Laguna and Davao Aguilas remained in search of a first win after both sides failed to find the back of the net in a goal-less draw.
