Nearly blowing early 20-point leads, the Hawkeyes held off Racal Motor’s late run for a 93-75 victory in the Foundation Cup at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig Tuesday.
“I’m happy we won [but] still, I really hate the way we played in the third quarter,” said Fernandez. “It seemed like we didn’t know how to play basketball. We gave up so many points, we gave up so many turnovers.”
Davon Potts unloaded 15 points for the Hawkeyes, who staged an 11-0 blitz with 2:38 left to regain control, 88-69, against Racal.
Jason Perkins and Alfred Ryan Batino also teamed up for 26 points as the Hawkeyes improved to 5-2.
Earlier, Wangs Basketball snapped a two-game skid with a nail-biting 88-86 escape over Gamboa Coffee Mix.
“I expected to get the ball in the end,” said John Ambuludto, who sank the game-winner. “I thought if I did, I would shoot it anyway.”
Gamboa Coffee’s Mike Parala tied the game at 86 with 8.6 ticks remaining before Ambuludto dropped a floater with two seconds left to win the game for the Couriers.
Robert Herndon led the Couriers with 27 points, five rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Gamboa playing coach Leo Avenido nearly finished with a double-double with a day-high 38 points and nine boards. —CARLO ANOLIN, KRISTOFER PURNELL
