If things work in Gilas Pilipinas’ favor, Mike Myers will reinforce the national team which will see action in the 2017 William Jones Cup in Taiwan.

Coach Chot Reyes shared the team’s plans as Gilas will use the invitational tournament, slated on late July, as the squad’s buildup for the 2017 Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in August.

“If things materialize, we’re thinking of bringing him with us in the Jones Cup,” he said.

Myers is currently TNT’s stand-in import, the KaTropa’s insurance in case Joshua Smith’s foot injury worsens through the course of the 2017 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals.

Reyes shared that Myers’ performance in the Thursday evening practice at Meralco Gym earned him a positive feedback from the national team’s coaching staff, putting him in the list as one of the possible naturalization prospects in the future.

But he made it clear that the priority is to find an import for the Gilas squad in the Jones Cup.

“For now, everyone that we could bring in, of course, are possible candidates. The urgent thing is for us to get an import or a naturalized player possible for the Jones Cup,” said Reyes.

On Myers’ part, he welcomed the potential plans Reyes laid out for him as he relishes this rare chance to work out with the Philippine national team,

“If that’s what they want me to be, I’ll be ready to play here. I’ll be ready to help and show my talent. I’ll be ready for the games and I’ll be here to help out this team,” said the 6-foot-9 forward.
