Iriga City to host Davis Cup tie
Iriga City, a rising economic hub in the Bicol region, is rolling out the red carpet for the Davis Cup Group II first-round Asia-Oceania tie pitting the Philippines and Pacific Oceania set from Feb. 10 to 12 at the Iriga Coliseum.
Iriga Mayor Madeline Alfelor-Gazmen yesterday announced that they are close to finalizing the hosting of the Davis Cup tie, which will mark the first time that the city will be hosting a prestigious international event.
The Filipinos are seeking to make it back to Group I after taking a 3-2 loss to Chinese-Taipei in their relegation tie in Lapu Lapu Cebu last August.
Veterans Cecil Mamiit and Treat Huey are expected to spearhead the Philippine squad that may also include Ruben Gonzales, Jeson Patrombon and Johnny Arcilla.
