For a while, it looked like Creamline was expecting to school Adamson-Akari. It was the Cool Smashers, however, who learned a lesson from the Lady Falcons: Don’t take them for granted.

Creamline encountered rough patches before disposing of inexperienced Adamson-Akari, 25-17, 18-25, 25-14, 24-22, Saturday night at the start of the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at FilOil Flying V Center.

Rose Vargas, who had 18 points for Creamline, admitted service reception played a big part in their second-set hiccup.

“We still need to improve on that and on our defense as well,” said Vargas in Filipino.

The slight wobble did not concern resident star Alyssa Valdez much, as the former Lady Eagle chose to look at the positives.

“It’s gonna be a good start,” said Valdez. “The important thing is we get used to playing as a team and having the right attitude and creating chemistry.”

In the second game, Air Force downed Perlas-BangKo, 25-23, 9-25, 25-20, 25-20, to jumpstart its bid in the conference.

The Lady Falcons, coached by American Airess Padda, stole a set from the Cool Smashers, whose powerful lineup includes Valdez and new acquisition Jia Morado.

Jema Galanza, who played for Creamline last conference, peppered her former team’s side of the court with smashing attacks to lead Adamson.
