MANILA, Philippines—After Tuesday’s rush of golds, the Philippines copped only one gold medal in day six of the 26th Southeast Asian games courtesy of rowing.
As of 8 p.m., the Philippines has a 15-28-34 (gold, silver, bronze) medal count.
Rower Nestor Cordova struck gold in the M1x single scull event while the other sports settled for 2-3 finishes Wednesday in the biennial sporting event.
The Philippines also claimed seven bronze medals delivered by GM Darwin Laylo in blindfold chess, the tandem of Edgar Ilas and Alvin Amposta in LM2x double sculls, Buenavista in marathon and the PH women’s fencing squad in Sabre team division.
In swimming, Dorothy Grace Hong added another bronze in the 100m backstroke event to her haul while Anderson Lee, Jessie King Lacuna, Jose Gonzales and Paolo Arabejo also finished third in the 4 x 200m freestyle.
GM John Paul Gomez also settled for silver in the men’s blindfold chess even as Eric Panique also finished second in marathon.
In pool, Hall-of-famer Efren “Bata” Reyes, meanwhile, finished in third place in the Caroom1 cushion single event while Francisco Dela Cruz came in second in the same event.
In archery, Jennifer Chan and Earl Jacinto scored two silver medals for the Philippines in individual compound event.
