Creamline overcomes gutsy Bali Pure in extended fourth set

Creamline fought tooth and nail to dispel pesky Bali Pure in four long sets, 25-20, 28-30, 25-19, 31-29, to keep its strong push in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference Wednesday at Filoil Flying V Centre.
The Cool Smashers are now at 2-0 while the Water Defenders are at level 1-1.
Ivy Remulla came through in the clutch and ended the painstakingly long fourth period with a block on Jorelle Singh and that capped off the Cool Smashers three-point spurt to finish the match.
Creamline skipper Alyssa Valdez said everything boiled down to her team’s will to win as they tried to fend off the Water Defenders in the final points of the match.
“I think it just came down to who had the biggest heart, and I think the breaks of the game also helped us,” said Valdez. “And, because the two teams have so many similarities, and I really think the breaks of the game went in our favor.”
“Both teams have talented setters in Jia [Morado] and Jasmine [Nabor], talented liberos in Lizlee [Pantone], Alyssa [Eroa], and Angela [Nunag].”
Valdez’ 37 points to lead Creamline was her highest in the league since she exploded for 39 points two conferences back.
Rosemari Vargas also dished out some punishment for the Cool Smashers as she finished with 19 points while Pau Soriano added 14.
Grethcel Soltones led Bali Pure with 18 points while Risa Sato added 14.
