PBA Philippine Cup: Cardona helps Meralco escape Powerade

MANILA, Philippines—Meralco squeaked past Powerade, 98-96, Wednesday in the 2011 PBA Philippine Cup.

Mac Cardona delivered a clutch go-ahead tear top shot before Gabby Espinas’ split from the line with 0.9 ticks left sealed the Bolts’ sixth victory.


Cardona scored 18 points while Espinas finished with a team-best 25 point performance, which went along with 11 rebounds and three blocks.

No. 1 overall pick JVee Casio had a chance to clinch the game for the Tigers but tripped and missed on his way to the basket with 1.9 seconds remaining.

Powerade absorbed its sixth loss in nine games despite a 26-point output from scoring champion Gary David.

Doug Kramer and JVee Casio added 17 and 14 points, respectively, for the Tigers in a losing cause.
