PH volleyball team names official spokespersons

National women’s volleyball team head coach Francis Vicente on Tuesday named team captain Mika Reyes and assistant team captain Aby Maraño as the only players who can give statements about the national team.

“The problem is when people get information from nonlegit sources,” Vicente told the Inquirer, referring to emotional social media posts that centered on the misunderstanding that only Alyssa Valdez showed up for a Sunday practice.

Maraño later clarified the misunderstanding, saying practice was canceled and announced via the team’s Viber group chat which Valdez was a part of. But she became a target of hate tweets.

Valdez dismissed the incident, saying: “As far as I’m concerned my commitment with the national team stays.”
