Blu Girls turn back hosts in Canada Cup

BLU GIRLS

The Philippine Blu Girls continued to flaunt fine form, humbling world No. 3 Canada , 6-2, at the start of the Canada Cup International Softball Championship in Surrey, British Columbia, Tuesday.

The 17th-ranked Blu Girls kept the momentum of their back-to-back wins over Mexico to close out their seventh-place finish in last week’s World Cup of Softball XII, outclassing the hosts early in Pool B of the 15-team field.

They battered the Canadians with 10 hits and scored a pair of runs in each of the second, third and fourth innings to set the tone for the surprise rout.

“I’m so elated with this win by the Blu Girls over powerhouse Canada and I hope they will sustain their form as they slug it out with the other top teams in the world,” said AsaPhil president Jean Henri Lhuillier.

Francesca Altomonte sparked the Blu Girls’ charge, scoring with her two-out, two-run homer on top of the second inning.
