Blu girls repeat over Canadians

The Philippine Blu Girls stunned world No. 3 Canada again, hacking out a 6-3 victory, to halt a three-game skid in the Canada Cup International Softball Championship playoffs in Surrey City on Saturday.

Kailee Cuico and Hailey Decker took charge in the first two innings which the Blu Girls dominated.

The Cebuana Lhuillier-backed squad, ranked 17th in the world, also beat the host team, 6-2, early in the tournament.

Cuico belted a three-run homer in the opening frame to give the Blu Girls a hot start.

Decker followed it up with a two-run double in the next and Cuico stretched the lead to six runs with her RBI single in the fifth.

The Canadians averted a shutout by scoring one in the sixth and added one more run in the seventh.

“The Blu Girls are getting stronger while taking each game to heart,” said Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines president Jean Henri Lhuillier.

Team PH next faces Puerto Rico, seeking to avenge a 6-8 setback earlier.
