Japanese squads lined up for friendlies vs national team

Several Japanese university teams will test the mettle of the Philippine team which is now on a two-week training camp in Okayama.

While training for six hours a day with Japan V-League champion Okayama Seagulls, the Nationals will also battle other noted clubs in order to fine tune their game for two major international tournaments.

Ryokoku University, Osaka Superiors, Osaka University of HSS and Kobe Shinwa University are scheduled to face the Nationals in friendlies over the course of their training camp.

The Philippines is hoping to at least land a medal in the Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur and make the quarterfinals of the Asian Women’s Senior Championships in Laguna.

The Philippines is also hoping to learn the Japanese brand of play, which is anchored on speed and defense.

“Our main objective is to polish our floor defense and blocking as well as our mental preparation,” said Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) marketing and development chair Ramon Suzara.
