Tanduay books quarters seat

Tanduay barged into the 2017 PBA D-League Foundation Cup quarterfinals as it downed Wangs Basketball, 93-81, Tuesday at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

Paul Varilla came up big in the end game as he scored five of his nine points in the last three minutes to hold off a furious rally from the Couriers and propel the Rhum Masters to the playoffs with their 6-2 slate.

Mark Isip ignited Marinerong Pilipino’s 119-74 blowout win over Zark’s Burgers in the other game to stay in playoff contention.

Tanduay nearly blew a late 15-point lead before Varilla fired up the Rhum Masters.

The Skippers, meanwhile, refused to be caught off-guard by the sudden activation of former pro Mac Cardona.

“We just want to break their spirit early on, pound them, and attack them. The players responded even if we found out that Mac (Cardona) was playing today,” said coach Koy Banal.
