MANILA, Philippines—The Philippine men’s and women’s futsal squads suffered twin opening defeats in the 26th Southeast Asian Games Friday.
The men’s team, dubbed as the Philippines Eagles, broke down in the second half and crumbled against Indonesia, 5-9.
The squad, composed of a mix of Fil-foreigners and locals bannered by the Azkals’ Misagh Bahadoran, gave up five goals to the Indonesians after the intermission after going toe-to-toe in the first half.
The women’s team also suffered drubbing in the hands of Myanmar, 2-6.
After the opening goal, the La Amigas struggled in keeping up with the Burmese, who pulled away in the second half with four additional goals.
