Pinoy chessers snatch 3 golds

Al-Basher Buto and Woman Fide Master Allaney Jia Doroy delivered perfect performances for the Philippines in the 13th Asian Schools Chess Championships being held in Panjin, China.

Buto, whose father hails from Marawi City, scored 7 points to secure the gold medal in the Under-7 Rapid bracket.

Doroy also scored 7 points for the gold in the Under-17 Girls’ Rapid.

Jerly Mae San Diego snatched the third gold by topping Under-13 Girls Rapid with 6 points.

Three other Filipinos settled for silvers, led by Kylen Joy Mordido who scored 6 points but lost in the fourth tiebreak against the winner, Sitora Saparova of Uzbekhistan, in the Under-15 Girls’ Rapid.

Daniel Quizon and CM Stephen Rome Pangilinan both scored 6 points but had to settle for silvers in the Under-13 and Under-17 Rapid, respectively. —ROY LUARCA
