WATCH: Tokyo unveils 2020 Olympics official theme song, dance
In anticipation of the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, the Tokyo Organizing Committee recently unveiled the official dance and theme song of the biggest sporting competition in the world.
Revolving around the concept of “HAPPY＆PEACE,” the theme song of the spirited event is dubbed as “Tokyo Olympic Ondo-Ondo 2020,” a remake of the original song from the 1964 Tokyo Olympics titled “Tokyo Gorinto Ondo.”
The dance, which was first shown at an event held at the Toranomon Hills complex in Minato ward, was first introduced by Tokyo 2020 Olympic Organizing Committee President Yoshiro Mori on stage.
With the event being streamed live on the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Facebook account, the dance that accompanied the theme song was later demonstrated on stage. The performers were joined by several Olympians, including 2012 London Games gold medalist Homare Sawa.
The esteemed athlete donned the “yukata”, or summer kimono, printed with the Olympic logo.
According to a report on Japan Times, a meeting attended by Mori was held later in the day, where he urged organizers to speed up preparations for the games and meet the tight schedule.
Meanwhile, the preparations for the 2020 Olympics has not gone smoothly as hoped and has encountered several delays. This includes a scandal caused by a construction worker who committed suicide while working on the National Stadium, the report said.
