With much of the attention in San Beda focused on Robert Bolick, Javee Mocon shared that he’s just fine working in the shadows for the Red Lions.

And in the process, the 22-year-old has developed another dimension in his game as he embraced the playmaking role for the Red Lions.

“This year, everyone is so focused on Robert so I have to make plays. Once they double team Robert, I get free. So when I attack, I can kick the ball out to the open man,” he said.

Mocon showed the newest facet of his game as he recorded a near triple-double in San Beda’s 81-74 win over Letran on Tuesday, tallying 17 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists.

But the 6-foot-4 forward gave all credit for his solid game to his teammates.

“I just did what I always do every game, doing the extra passes, and luckily, they made their shots off my passes and I got the rebounds,” he said.

Mocon, though, wouldn’t deny that he’s taking this season, his fourth year in San Beda, differently, acknowledging that this is already the right time for him to hone his skills in preparation for the next level.

“Every day, I have to make something better for me when it comes to my skills,” he said, while keeping the Red Lions’ title retention aspirations at a premium. “Every game, we just have to give it all out because all teams are behind us.”

San Beda will now take a 10-day break before returning to the court on August 4 against JRU.
