PH spikers doing well in Japan training despite injuries

Good news and bad news from the national women’s team currently training in Japan.

Middle blocker and assistant team captain Aby Maraño’s ankle is almost healed, but top libero Denden Lazaro’s hamstring injury might sideline her for next month’s Asians Senior Championship.

The team completed its final day of training in Okayama where top club mentor Akiyoshi Kawamoto singled out reserve libero Dawn Macandili.

Kawamoto said the La Salle ace played beyond his expectations and is a big asset to the national team.

Maraño hurt her ankle in the first few days of training but has rejoined the team.

Lazaro may resume playing in the Kuala Lumpur Southeast Asian Games that succeeds the Asians.
