Reserve hitter Peter John Quiel has replaced Greg Dolor in the the men’s national volleyball team line up after the coaches’ deliberation Thursday in Suwon City, South Korea.

Head coach Sammy Acaylar and his assistants voted unanimously to slate in Quiel after Dolor injured his pinky finger on a blocking drill Wednesday at Sungkyunkwan University.

Acaylar’s team lost in four sets against Hwasung City, 25-20, 17-25, 25-19, 25-14, at Songsan High School volleyball gym and that was where Quiel impressed Acaylar and his crew.

Quiel said he is motivated by his inclusion as a member of the lineup for the Southeast Asian Games.

“This will be a challenge for me considering I’ve replaced Dolor,” said Quiel in Filipino. “I’ll do my best to help my team and to serve my country.”

Only the Final 12 will fly to Malaysia for the Southeast Asian Games and will look to take a podium spot for the first time since Acaylar steered the country to a bronze medal finish in 1991.
