Dolor coming home; Quiel tapped as replacement

Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas acting president Peter Cayco will personally bring home dejected Greg Dolor, who will miss the Asian Seniors and Southeast Asian Games after breaking his finger during a freak training accident recently.

Peter John Quiel, another Far Eastern University stalwart, has been tapped by national coach Sammy Acaylar to take over Dolor’s spot.

Cayco is expected to arrive in Suwon, South Korea, on Thursday and will bring home the FEU standout, leaving behind the rest of the national men’s team currently training there.

The Umingan, Pangasinan, native and former Spikers’ Turf Most Valuable Player broke his left pinky finger, which had to be operated immediately.

Dolor was doing blocking drills with members of the coaching staff, who were firing from an elevated position when it happened.

Dolor was rushed to Soo Hospital and immediately went under the knife.

“We know that Greg is a valuable member of the team and [would have played] a key role as our men’s national team shoots for a podium finish in the biennial meet,” said Cayco. “But his health is our primary concern.”

“I will fly to Suwon City, South Korea, as soon as possible to personally check his condition and bring him home,” he added. “The entire team and the federation are fully behind him in this very challenging situation.”
