Star forward Allein Maliksi said Friday he does not harbor any hard feelings after being left off the Gilas Pilipinas team that is set to see action in the Fiba Asia Cup in August.
“I’m okay with it, and I’ll give my support to the team,” said Maliksi in Filipino after his Hotshots brushed off Alaska 101-92 in the PBA Governors’ Cup at Ynares Sports Center.
“I respect coach Chot’s decision because I saw that Matthew Wright and Roger Pogoy played well [during the Seaba Championship]. There will always be someone who will have to sacrifice and will not make the team.”

Maliksi proved his worth as a national player when he suited up for the Philippines in the Fiba Asia Cup Qualifiers and in the Seaba Championship, extending the floor with his shooting and providing depth in the wing position.
Reyes, however, said he was “asked” to leave out Maliksi in favor of Star teammate Jio Jalalon for the Fiba Asia Cup in Lebanon.
“Let’s say that coach Chot wanted me to be in the team, but it really can’t happen because there will only be 12 slots, 11 if there’s an import,” said Maliksi. “Maybe next time I’ll get in.”
