MANILA, Philippines—With the odds favoring him, Filipino World 9-ball and 8-ball champion Ronato “Volcano” Alcano clashes with fellow world titlist Daryl Peach of Great Britain in the resumption of the Philippine Bigtime Billiards Face-Off Series Saturday night at the Pagcor Airport Casino in Parañaque City.
As of yesterday, Alcano is a -1.6 favorite against Peach (+2.1), according to the official Sports Betting Mega Sports World which oversees the wagers placed on the two pillars of world pool.
Alcano will try to get back at Peach, who beat him in the 2006 International Pool Tour (IPT) in Las Vegas, and in the 2007 World Pool (9-ball) Championships in Manila.
“I’m ready for Daryl. I’m going for a great performance on Saturday,” said the 39-year-old Alcano who is known for his soft-break and laid-back demeanor at the pool table. Alcano defeated Peach during the 2007 World 8-ball championships in the United Arab Emirates.
Peach, a native of Castleford, West Yorkshire, England, said the short, winner’s break format makes it “anybody’s ball game.”
The winner will wine $5,000 while the loser gets $2,500.
The PBB Face-Off is a joint undertaking of Mega Sports World and BRKHRD Corp., and organized in cooperation with Airport Casino Filipino, Crown Sound System Sakura Amplifiers, Home Theater Systems, Malungai Life Oil, Diamond Billiard table, Hermes Sports Bar, I-Bar, Golden Leaf, Bugsy Promotions and the Billiards Managers and Players Association of the Philippines.
The match will be aired live over Solar Sports, Sky Channel 70 and Destiny Channel 34 and through internet via live streaming at www.starbilliards.com.ph, www.megasportsworld.com, and www.philippinebigtimebilliards.com.
