Under Armour sends two UC players to Stephen Curry Asia Tour
With its mission to empower athletes and making athletes better, Under Armour gave two lucky ballers a chance of a lifetime when University of Cebu’s John Bryl Cuyos and Virlou Orquez traveled to Seoul to witness Stephen Curry in his Asia Tour.
Cuyos and Orquez gained a chance to see 2x MVP, Under Armour ambassador in person after winning Under Armour 3×3 Under-18 Philippines title recently. The two were members of the victorious UC squad that captured the Under Armour 3×3 Southeast Asia Cebu crown and the Under Armour 3×3 Southeast Asia Philippines title in Manila.
Article continues after this advertisementThe two ballers from Cebu traveled on Wednesday to see Curry in the flesh at the event held at the Jungchang Gymnasium in Seoul Korea. They got a chance to interact with the NBA champion and learned new drills and tricks from the Golden State Warriors star during the all-expense paid trip by Under Armour Southeast Asia. They also received limited edition gears from Under Armour.
Cuyos and Orquez also showed they have what it takes to be among the best players in the country as the UC squad overcame tough odds against teams from various parts of the Philippines to capture the two titles that will not be possible without the support of coach Joever Samonte and Atty. Estenso.
Article continues after this advertisementCuyos, 17, holds an impressive resume that includes being a two-time Cesafi All-Star, a two-time Cesafi runner-up, and a two-time runner-up in the Cebu City Olympics. He is also a Mandaue City Olympics Cebu Inter-High School, Cordua 1st Mayors’ Cup, and WJC 1st Cup champion.
Orquez, 18, was a former member of the Holy Trinity High School in Alberta, Canada where he was an Edmonton Journal All-Star. In the Philippines, he helped UC win the Mandaue City Olympics Cebu Inter-High School champion.
UC defeated University of Visayas, 15-14, in the thrilling final in the Cebu tournament before flying in to Manila to also make a big impression as the Webmasters beat Bounty A also in pulsating fashion, 21-20, in the championship match.
Curry’s visit in Asia came following the launch of Curry3ZERO, the latest Under Armour shoeline for the NBA superstar. The Curry3ZERO made its formal launch in the Philippines a few weeks ago with Alaska Aces point guard Chris Banchero, Barangay Ginebra foward Jervy Cruz, San Beda standout Robert Bolick, actor JC De Verea, Letran star Rey Nambatac, Ms. Earth 2015 Angelica Gabrena Ong, coach Christian Luanzon, and UA’s newest ambassador Kali Huff attending the ceremony at The City Club Alphaland Makati Place.
Under Armour also treated the media with a unique basketball experience as they played 3×3 basketball, competed in a three-point shootout, and taught new drills to improve on their basketball skills and physical condition.
