Beyoncé considering purchase of Houston Rockets ownership stake—report
The search for the next Houston Rockets franchise owner continues and one internationally acclaimed pop star has entered the scene.
Houston, Texas-native Beyoncé Knowles-Carter is reportedly mulling over a minority ownership of the Rockets franchise, after owner Les Alexander put it up for sale last month.
Article continues after this advertisementSources familiar with the matter told Bloomberg that the 35-year-old former “Destiny’s Child” singer was certainly interested, after husband Jay-Z sold his 1 percent stake of the Brooklyn Nets in 2013.
The report added that Beyoncé could become a valuable asset by adding “superstar sizzle to any ownership group, likely helping the team with local and international marketing.”
Alexander purchased the Rockets in 1993 for $85 million.
Article continues after this advertisementForbes’ estimated value of the team is as high as $2 billion, given its blockbuster off-season transactions of acquiring Chris Paul via trade and signing James Harden to a long-term contract. The club’s popularity overseas—particularly in China—may further boost its value as well, the report said.
The famed business magazine also cited Beyoncé’s net worth at $350 million, while her husband Jay-Z is believed to be worth around $810 million.
