The search for the next Houston Rockets franchise owner continues and one internationally acclaimed pop star has entered the scene.
Houston, Texas-native Beyoncé Knowles-Carter is reportedly mulling over a minority ownership of the Rockets franchise, after owner Les Alexander put it up for sale last month.
Sources familiar with the matter told Bloomberg that the 35-year-old former “Destiny’s Child” singer was certainly interested, after husband Jay-Z sold his 1 percent stake of the Brooklyn Nets in 2013.
The report added that Beyoncé could become a valuable asset by adding “superstar sizzle to any ownership group, likely helping the team with local and international marketing.”
Alexander purchased the Rockets in 1993 for $85 million.
Forbes’ estimated value of the team is as high as $2 billion, given its blockbuster off-season transactions of acquiring Chris Paul via trade and signing James Harden to a long-term contract. The club’s popularity overseas—particularly in China—may further boost its value as well, the report said.
The famed business magazine also cited Beyoncé’s net worth at $350 million, while her husband Jay-Z is believed to be worth around $810 million.
