PH chessers place third in Asian Schools meet
Woman Fide Master Allaney Jia Doroy, Al-Basher Buto and Jerlyn Mae San Diego captured two gold medals each as Team Philippines placed third in the 13th Asian Schools Chess Championship held in Panjin City, China, recently.
Daniel Quizon copped the Under 13 Open Blitz title as Team Philippines collected a total of seven golds, 10 silvers and one bronze in the event which drew entries from 22 nations.
China got 10 golds, 7 silvers and 10 bronzes to take 1st place, beating Uzbekistan with 8 golds, 6 silvers and 4 bronzes.
San Diego topped the Under 17 Girls Standard and Rapid events; Buto topped the Under 7 Open Rapid and Blitz; while San Diego ruled the Under 13 Girls Rapid and Blitz. Kylen Joy Mordido clinched the silvers in the Under 15 Girls Standard, Rapid and Blitz to match the three-silver haul of Candidate Master Stephen Rome Pangilinan in the Under 17 Open Standard, Rapid and Blitz. Daren Dela Cruz (Under 9 Girls Standard), Jrish Jone Velarde (Under 11 Open Blitz), Daniel Quizon (Under 13 Open Rapid) and Doroy (Under 17 Girls Blitz) accounted for the other silvers. Gal Brien Palasigue took the lone bronze.
