Dela Rosa sweeps GT200 opener
Patrick Dela Rosa bagged the GT200 title by sweeping the Sprint and GT Final Race in the kickoff leg of the 2017 Yokohama Philippine Grand Touring Car Championships at Clark International Speedway in Pampanga recently.
Dela Rosa topped the morning’s nine-lap Sprint race by 8.847 seconds over Gerard Loy.
Eduardo Suiza, defending champion Edwin Rodriguez and Paolo Santos followed them home.
Making sure that he clinched the GT200 crown, Dela Rosa dominated the afternoon’s 15-lap GT Final Race, winning over Suiza by two minutes and 7.677 seconds.
Santos and Rodriguez wound up third and fourth, respectively.
Suiza settled for the GT150 titles in both races with Santos scoring the same feat in the GT100 class.
The day’s other winners were Fil Gulfin in the Classic Aspirated Cup, Rick Jason de Guzman in the Philminiracers Classic Mini Racing and Abet Reyes in the Toyota 1800 race. —STEVE SILVA, MOTORSPORTS CONTRIBUTOR
