National athletes in sailing, who brought the country a gold and two silvers in the last Southeast Asian Games, flew to Kuala Lumpur over the weekend ahead of the rest of Team Philippines seeing action in the Aug. 19 to 30 event.
The team had asked to leave earlier to “meet their boats and have some time to practice” and test the conditions at National Sailing Centre in Langkawi, where races will be held.
The Philippines won gold in match boat racing keelboat through Ridgely Balladares, Rommel Chavez and Richly Arquino Magsanay in Singapore two years ago.
The trio also bagged silver in fleet racing, while Lester Tayong and Emerson Villena took second pace in men’s 470 dinghy.
This time around, the country will be bannered by windsurfing world champion Geylord Coveta.
