Korea deals PH 2nd loss

Korea handed the Philippines another loss, 25-23, 25-18, 25-12, in the Asian Volleyball Championship (AVC) Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship classification stage on Sunday at Alonte Sports Arena in Biñan, Laguna.

The Koreans, ranked 10th in the world along with the Argentines, are undefeated in two matches in the classification stage.
They have a shot at a top-four seeding in the quarterfinal round.
The Philippines, meanwhile, absorbed its second straight loss. On Saturday, it bowed to Kazakhstan, 23-25, 20-25, 19-25.

The Philippines whipped Hong Kong, 25-16, 25-21,25-17, to jump-start its group stage campaign on Wednesday.

In other matches, Japan and Kazakhstan also prevailed.

Japan, No. 6 in the world, swept Taiwan, 25-19, 25-16, 25-20, to also improve to 2-0.

The Taiwanese slipped to 1-1.

The Kazakhs dropped the first set but eventually overcame the Vietnamese, 21-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-20, to likewise tote a 2-0 slate.

Vietnam is at 0-2.

The classification stage will be used to determine the eight teams’ seeding come the quarterfinals.
