BIÑAN, Laguna—China has stopped its downward spiral in the qualifying stage of the AVC Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship after squeaking past Chinese-Taipei in five sets, 25-22, 19-25, 20-25, 25-21, 15-11, Monday at Alonte Sports Arena here.
Captain Liu Meng Ya had 22 points to lead the Chinese as they improved to 1-2 while Jin Ye added 19.
Chinese-Taipei will be locked in a bottom-four seed come the quarters as it slipped to 0-3.
Wu Wei-Hua led Chinese-Taipei with a game-high 25 points.
In the second game, Korea remained undefeated after dealing Kazakhstan a quick defeat, 25-21, 26-24, 25-10, to improve to 3-0.
Kim Yeon-koung had her highest-scoring game of the tournament with 18 points while Hwang Minkyoung added 12.
Korea, though, lost Yang Hyojin after the 27-year-old injured her back during the game.
Yekaterina Zhdanova had 12 points to lead the Kazakhs (2-1).
