Japan sets up semis date with China in AVC

BIÑAN, Laguna—Japan made quick work of Vietnam, 25-22, 25-21, 25-16, to advance to the semifinals of the AVC Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship Tuesday at Alonte Sports Arena here.

The Japanese will meet China in the penultimate stage of the tournament while the Vietnamese are set to compete in the classification stages for the fifth to eighth place.

Rika Nomoto had a game-high 20 points to lead the no.6 team in the world while Mami Uchiseto added 10 points in Japan’s campaign.

Tran Thi Thanh Thuy had 14 points to lead Vietnam.

Japan was relentless on its attack converting on 47 of its 133 spike attempts while serving up eight aces.
