A rejuvenated Angelo Que carded a bogey-free eight-under 64 in morning play to share the early lead with American James Bowen in the Aboitiz Invitational 2017 at Manila Southwoods in Carmona, Cavite.
Que spiked six birdies with an eagle on No. 8, where he overshot the green from 230 yards but pitched in for eagle from 10 yards out, for nines of 32-32 that put him alongside Owen.
Matching Que’s six birdies and an eagle after 13 holes, Owen came out of an hour-long delay due to threats of lightning with a birdie to seize control.
A couple of poor chip shots on the par-5 17th, however, led to a flubbed par-putt from seven feet that pulled Owen down to a tie with Que.
They were one shot up on Miguel Tabuena (65).
Tabuena, the 2015 Order of Merit winner, made seven birdies in a flawless stint after 15 holes only to bogey that par-3 16th. —ROY LUARCA
