BIÑAN, Laguna—Korea avenged its failed bid for a championship and dismantled China 25-11, 25-18, 25-20, to earn the bronze medal in the AVC Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship Thursday at Alonte Sports Arena.
The Koreans lost their chance for the gold when Thailand swept them in the semifinals, 25-20, 25-20, 25-21, Wednesday.
Hwang Minkyoung gave the Koreans the third-place finish when her final attack bounced off two Chinese defenders.
Captain Kim Yeon-koung said she felt bad they didn’t get a chance to challenge for the gold, but the bronze is a good enough consolation prize for them.
“After yesterday we were really upset because we wanted to go to the finals,” said Kim, who finished with eight points as she sat out most of the third set. “Anyway we finished third so I’m happy for the girls.”
Kim Heejin led Korea with 16 points while Park Jeongah added 13.
Jin Ye had 10 points to lead China.
