Pool, wushu bets kick off PH bid in Universiade

TAIPEI—Team Philippines is pinning its hopes on wushu artists and billiards players in the 29th World University Games which opens Saturday at Taipei Stadium.

Competition begins Sunday with the 160-strong Filipino delegation sent here by the Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines (Fessap) fielding bets in taekwondo, judo, weightlifting, swimming, diving, athletics, archery, badminton, golf and table tennis.

Bannering the country’s campaign are internationalists Rodlin John Bautista, Gillian Margaret Go and James Lim.

Bautista of Trinity University topped the Tiger 10-ball championship and earned MVP honors while Go of University of Santo Tomas has fared well in international tournaments.

Representing wushu are Kelly Marcelo, Jomar Balangui, Gladys Sia, Czarina Hagos, Abigail Faniega, Earl Van Pasno and Sean Wico Siy.
