Track bets get going

TAIPEI—Filipino track and field bets get their turn to test world-class opposition when centerpiece athletics begins in the 29th Summer Universiade at Taipei Stadium Wednesday.

Sean Michael Kaufmann and Yuhei Go and Jeremiah Angela Malonso will compete in the qualifying heats in the men’s and women’s 100m starting at 9 a.m.

The 19-year-old Kaufmann, representing University of the Philippines, and the 22-year-old Go, representing Xavier University-Cagayan de Oro, will also join the qualifying heats of the men’s 200m.

The 20-year-old Malonso, also of UP, will likewise enter the women’s 200m qualifying heats.

Hurdler Jaime Mejia crashed out of competition after he was brought to a local hospital due to dengue.
