KUALA LUMPUR — The Philippines got two golden triumphs in athletics, through Aries Toledo in decathlon and Anthony Beram in men’s 200m dash late Wednesday in the 2017 Southeast Asian Games.
Just when the country was prepared to have a dry day, 23-year-old Toledo tallied 7,433 points after 10 events to capture the gold medal at Bukit Jalil National Stadium.
Toledo defeated Thailand’s Suttisak Singkon who had 7,411 and Vietnam’s Bui Van Su who tallied 6,737.
Quickly after, Beram clocked 20.84 seconds to crown himself the 200m sprint king, besting Jirapong Meenapra of Thailand (21.22 seconds) and Malaysia’s Thevarr Gunasegaran (21.26 seconds).
Marco Vilog placed second in the men’s 800-meter run (1:49.91) while Mark Harry Diones also captured silver in men’s triple jump (16.63m).
Fil-American Kayla Richardson, meanwhile, crashed out of the podium in the women’s 200m.
