Continent’s best gear up for Asian Karting Open

Karting champions from Japan, China, Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia clash with the Philippines’ finest when the second round of the 2017 Petron Tri-Activ Asian Karting Open Championships fires off on Aug. 25 to 27 at Carmona Racetrack in Cavite.

Reigning Asian Karting Open champion Jerry Choi of Apex Racing, Jacob Paolo Ang of Eagle Cement-Petron Racing and John Dizon of Edgesport Racing head the Filipino challenge in the premier X30 Senior and Formula 125 Open Senior races.

Ranged against the hosts in the event sanctioned by the Commission Internationale de Karting- Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (CIK-FIA) are Japan’s Takaharu Nakamori, Macau’s kickoff leg runner-up Joao Afonso, and China’s Liang Yan and Zhang Haopeng, among others.

Also at stake are titles in the X30 Master, X30 Veteran, X30 Junior, Formula 125 Open Junior, Mini-ROK, Formula KT 100 and the Apex Cup Series X30 Senior classes.

Eduardo Coseteng Jr., Dylan Arambulo, Maverick Corpuz, Keon Romoff and Jarred Kim banner local hopes in the X30 and Formula 125 junior races. —STEVE SILVA, CONTRIBUTOR
