Malacañang hails Filipino SEA Games medalists

Malacañang lauded on Sunday the Filipino athletes who have brought honor to the country in the 29th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) which is ongoing in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

“Congratulations to all the Filipino athletes who won and brought honor to the country in yesterday’s events in the Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur,” Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said in a statement.

“The whole country cheered when Team Pilipinas Gilas Men’s Basketball Team unleashed their top form and once again asserted our basketball supremacy in Southeast Asia by clinching the gold last night,” he added.

Abella said Kiyomi Watanabe and the Philippine taekwondo poomsae team composed of Rodolfo Reyes, Jr., Dustin Jacob Mella and Raphael Mella also got gold in the 63kg division in women’s judo and taekwondo male poomsae, respectively.

As of August 26, 11:00 p.m., the Philippines had 18 gold, 25 silver and 47 bronze medals, the spokesman added.

“Mga kababayan, patuloy po natin ibigay ang ating suporta sa mga manlalarong Pinoy.  Puso para sa bayan!” said Abella.

The multi-sport event will run until August 30.  CBB
