KUALA LUMPUR—The Philippine taekwondo team is pinning its hopes on its last two bets, Olympian Kirstie Elaine Alora and Francis Aaron Agojo, to secure the much needed gold medals on Tuesday.
Alora is fighting in the women’s -73 kilogram, while Agojo is entered in the men’s -63 kg division of the competitions being held at KLCC Function Hall 1.
Newcomer Rhezzie Aragon snatched the silver medal in taekwondo Monday after losing to an Indonesian foe.
It was a sorry defeat for the 20-year-old Aragon who, at 5-foot-9, was deemed tall for the women’s -53 kg division (bantamweight).
But in the end, she failed to stop Mariska Halinda, 9-4.
Aragon was trailing, 6-3, after two rounds and tried her best to slip high scoring head shots to no avail.
The country had previously bagged one gold through Samuel Morrison, one silver through Arven Alcantara and one bronze through Pauline Lopez.
