Olympic medalist Michael Phelps challenges Conor McGregor to swimming race
UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor’s crossover from mixed martial arts to boxing has certainly caught a lot of attention—including that of the most decorated Olympian of all time, Michael Phelps.
The legendary swimmer recently took to Twitter and asked his 2.2 million followers if he should invite the Irish superstar to meet him at his domain.
“All of this talk… Should we race as well??” Phelps wrote perhaps in jest, after he tagged McGregor’s Twitter account and shared an edited photo of the brash fighter wearing a swimming cap.

The 23-time gold medalist, of course, is no stranger to novelty sporting events, having recently participated in Discovery’s Shark Week special, where he lost to a Great White Shark.
Phelps’ challenge would most likely not materialize, but it did get some netizens buzzing, as his post has been retweeted over 48,000 times as of this writing.
Phelps retired from professional competition for the second and, perhaps, the last time in 2016, while McGregor is expected to return to the UFC in the coming months. Khristian Ibarrola /ra
