Rivera, Anton power PH anew to Asian crown

Three-time slalom king Milo Rivera and eight-time Driver of the year Carlos Anton powered Team Philippines to another victory in the Asian Auto Gymkhana Championships held recently in Incheon, South Korea.

The Rivera-Anton tandem that captured the same plum in Taiwan last year beat Malaysian and Korean drivers.

“To be the Asian Gymkhana champions anew is such a surreal moment,” Rivera said. “Praise God for that great weekend.”

The two champion drivers were sent by the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP) to the race participated in by 10 nations.

The Philippine duo was coached by 10-time rally champion Vip Isada whose experience was instrumental in another successful title campaign.

Rivera also won the individual championship with a total time of 2 minutes and 43.68 seconds, barely beating 13-time Indonesian national champion James Sanger, who posted
2 minutes and 44.14 seconds.

Anton placed third after clocking 2:45.58.

The country also shone in the recent Manila leg of the Petron Tri-Activ Asian Karting Open Championships at Carmona Racetrack in Cavite with Jacob Paolo Ang of Eagle Cement-Petron steering Team PH to a sweep of all titles.
