PVL: San Sebastian recovers from opener loss, sweeps JRU

San Sebastian bounced back from its brutal opening loss and swept Jose Rizal U, 25-23, 25-22, 25-21, in the the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference Wednesday at Filoil Flying V Centre.

The Lady Stags are now at 1-1, after losing to Far Eastern University 25-17, 25-21, 25-14, in their first game, while the Lady Heavy Bombers are at 0-2 to bottom Group A.

Joyce Sta. Rita paced San Sebastian with 16 points but she got ample support from Nikka Dalisay and Daurene Santos who finished with 13 and 11 points, respectively.

San Sebastian head coach Roger Gorayeb wants his team to stand on its feet after the famed three-time MVP Grethcel Soltones left the squad due to graduation.

“This is their time to shine, they can’t reason out that Grethcel isn’t there anymore,” said Gorayeb. “I hope they can fix their psychology. I want them to dream big.”

Shola Alvarez top-scored for JRU with 13 points while Dolly Verzosa added 11.
