The reigning queens of the NCAA bowed to the cellar-dweller of the UAAP.

In a stark reversal of roles, Adamson drubbed Arellano, 25-20, 25-22, 25-16, Saturday in the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference at FilOil Flying V Centre.

The Lady Falcons were nowhere near the team they were in the previous UAAP season when—they could only cough up one win—as they dominated the Lady Chiefs, who didn’t show a trace of being the current NCAA champs.

Christine Soyud instigated the Lady Falcons’ raging start as they posted a 19-10 lead in the opening set, taking advantage of the Lady Chiefs’ spotty defense that was so solid the previous two matches.

In posting its second straight win and keeping its tournament slate clean, Adamson handed Arellano its first setback in a 2-1 start.

Comebacking setter Fen Emnas did an excellent job distributing the ball, making 29 excellent sets for Soyud and Jem Galanza to blast away.

Galanza topscored with 18 points, Soyud had nine and Lea-Ann Perez eight for the Lady Falcons, who contained Arellano’s vaunted gunners with tough floor defense.

Jovielyn Prado, one of Arellano’s top contributors, could only muster 11 points, while Andrea Marzan added eight. Regina Arocha contributed just two.

Adamson created ripples during its opening match, whipping University of the Philippines last Monday.
