Ateneo got back to its winning ways in the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference after dumping Lyceum in three sets, 25-23, 25-20, 25-20, Saturday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The Lady Eagles, who lost to Far Eastern University in four sets, improved to 2-1 and claimed sole possession of the second spot in Group A while the Lady Pirates slipped to 1-2.

“Definitely we’re happy about the win and it’s always good to win,” said Lady Eagles captain Bea De Leon. “I think we started out really slow, really poorly and the energy on the court on the second set was very slow but we picked it up.”

“The third set was still close but I knew my teammates were alive so I knew we could hold on.”

Maddie Madayag led all Ateneo with nine points while De Leon, Pauline Gaston, and Jules Samonte had eight points apiece.

Although Ateneo trailed, 36-26, in scoring spikes, it made up for the lost points with 12 service aces and enjoyed the 31 errors committed by the Lady Pirates.

Rocelyn Hongria had a game-high 12 points for Lyceum.
